Be Strong and Courageous???
I'm reading Joshua 1 earlier, and the phrase “Be strong and courageous” is repeated several times through the passage. Now, I am quite familiar with the story of Joshua and all that he accomplishes in his life. But if I were to read the passage as a novice, and see all the other stuff God is saying to Joshua, I would ask why does God keep saying “Be strong and courageous”??? I mean, God is promising Joshua this land and telling him how they will conquer the people, so this should be a piece of cake, right??? This should be EASY, like taking candy from a baby. And let’s be honest, who needs courage to snatch candy from an infant??? It’s going to be easy, because Joshua has a promise right?.? It’s a trip because, I have read through the word and seen the promises of God, I have receive prophesies about the things that God is going to do in my life. I have been led by the spirit concerning certain roads to travel and moves to make. I have gotten my word from God, BUT I have come to realize that because there’s a promise there will be a trial. The word from God is not the absence of an obstacle or problem, but promise of victory in the situation. Mark it down, you will face trials and obstacles. Jesus said it, I just retyped it. The enemy is using the obstacle to keep you from the promise, but God has given you the promise to overcome the obstacle. Which one has your focus??? Be strong and courageous. Courageous, root word courage, the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty or danger without fear. Better word, faith. Faith in a God who loves me and will take care of me. Faith in who he is and what he says. Because he said it, it will be. Who cares what it looks like? Looks can be deceiving. Our responsibility is to be hold fast to the promise. BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. Be Blessed

Thermometer or Thermostat
A thermometer is an instrument that is used to measure temperature. A thermostat is a device that functions to change, establish, and maintain a desired temperature. You’re like, where is this going? I have realized that in the world today, most people are like a thermometer. We can tell you what is going wrong in the world. We can talk about the issues, and the problems. We’ll say how hopeless things look. We’ll speak of how dire our current situations are. Basically, we can tell you how jacked up of a place the world is. But, is that our proper function??? I believe that God has called us to be more like a thermostat in that we are not supposed to reflect the climate around us, but rather we are to change it. A couple of months ago, my home became extremely hot. I went down stairs, looked at the thermostat and the temperature reading showed a temperature of 98 degrees, but the dial was set to 75. What was happening, the thermostat was simply reflecting the temperature and was not effectively changing it, which means something’s WRONG, something’s BROKE. When we can look at the world around us, and at no point are we causing any change, something’s WRONG, something’s BROKE. Too often we look at our surroundings and we allow that to hold us back from truly believing God to totally shake our world and drastically change the climate of the times. Change our schools, our neighborhoods, our nation, our world. We have to be a partner that the spirit of God works through to impact the lives of those around us and not simply be an object that simply reaffirms what our natural senses have already grasped. No one needs a thermometer to tell them the temperature outside on a summer’s day to know that it is hot. We have a purpose in this earth. We have a valued function. We are to change, establish, and maintain a desired climate for a genuine move of God.
I don’t want to be a thermometer in the world; I want to be a thermostat. –Jimmy Banks, Victory Christian Fellowship Youth Pastor 8/25/11

what if THIS IS IT???
August 25, 2001 marks the date of the death of the very talented, beautiful Aaliyah Dana Haughton or just simply Aaliyah. Personal note, I decided I was going to have to fight Dame Dash (her "friend" at the time"), because I lovededed her. In my opinion, she was "All That". Baby girl was FINE!!!! All joking aside, what bothers me the most as it relates to her death, is that we saw her very last hours on this earth. She was shooting a music video, and BET was filming the making of the video. I find it extremely eerie to watch the video and realize that less than two hours after wrapping the last scene in this tropical paradise, her life is over. I get the same weird feeling as I watch the documentary on Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez in which we are riding along in the car as the vehicle crashes and she dies.

The Tragedy in Amy's Death
Can I just vent a little, speak from the heart??? When I heard about the death of Amy Winehouse, I was not shocked or surprised. And that is the real tragedy. I received tweets and text messages from youth pastors or preachers who all pointed to the choices that she made like crooning "No No No" when it came to going to rehab. We can tell our young people, "Look at her choices and the way she lived her life....don't make those choices". True, whether a drug overdose, murder, suicide or whatever happened, many will almost instantly point to the choices that she made as the reason for her premature death, and undoubtedly have a message or material to persuasively minister into the lives of people who may encounter the same issues. Yet, here's the question that I had to ask, did any of us take the time out to pray for Amy??? We all saw the choices she made, and I am guilty of passing judgement on how she handled life, but did I ever ask God to demonstrate his love like never before in her life? I mean, I can honestly say, this is the outcome I expected, but never took the time to pray against it. The real tragedy is, many of us expected this to happen, but never felt the need to pray for her. I'm sure people attempted to talk to her or have an intervention, but sadly many of us who watched from a distance never took the time to pray. The love of Christ is powerful enough to change the darkest situation. The question is who's next? Do we just sit and wait for another young musician to become a member of the 27 club? She is more than just a tragic story; she's a missed opportunity. We expected it, and accepted it. We had the time to pass judgement, but did not take the time to pray.

Yeah, Stop Praying
It always amazes me when someone finds out that I am a preacher. You usually get one of two responses. Either that will be the end of all conversation or the conversation will become something like a Catholic Church confessional. This does not happen with Tre the Christian Rapper, but Tre the preacher is different I guess. I have tried it both ways on several flights, trust me on this one. Well today, I am in a store, and a clerk comes up to me and asks me to pray with her. She says to me that she is praying for God’s direction about her current relationship. She is currently living with her unsaved boyfriend. OH LORD WE REALLY NEED A BURNING BUSH WORD FROM YOU!!!!! Really??? I’m a pretty straight forward type of cat, so I looked at her and asked, “Are you serious?” She responded, “I have been praying about this for a while, but God has not given me an answer”. So I asked the most profound question I have ever asked in life, “Why are you wasting your time praying about that?” Now, going to good old Christian school when I was younger, two things that were said to me: There are no stupid questions and you should pray about everything. However, this question about praying, I would deem stupid. As I began to talk to her, what I realized was she was using prayer as an excuse for not obeying. What a concept, but are many of us any different? We know what God would have us to do, we know the right thing to do, we know what we are called to do, but we hide behind the ritual of “praying” knowing that God is not going to respond to our stupidity, because you already know what to do. I am not knocking the power of prayer, nor am I saying that we need not pray. What I am saying is we need to quit lying to ourselves when we already know the answer to some of these make believe questions that we are asking. God what do I do? I’m not God, but here’s your answer. OBEY!!!!!!!!!!! BE BLESSED.

God's Timing
The Heart of the Matter
Never really listened to this song “The Heart of the Matter”. Not really my genre. However, I heard this lyric and I began to really think about what it was saying. He was saying, I’m going to forgive, not because it will make you love me, but I will forgive you even if you don’t love me. True forgiveness is not based on conditions or expectations of a certain return. What a concept. Whether forgiving yourself or someone else, we have to forgive. If we don’t we are essentially imprisoning ourselves. We got to FORGIVE. He hurt me, she hurt me. You don’t know what they did Couple of things I had to learn. There is nothing I can do to change the past. It’s solid, it’s history, it’s written in stone, immovable as a mountain. Whether me or someone else. What’s done is done. Regret, resentment, or even revenge- none of these can change what has been done. These things will essentially ruin me. Grief and bitterness will only keep me thinking in the past. What is sadder is all that time spent has not changed a thing. We cannot change what has happened, but there is a means for healing. God will redeem my past if I allow him. He can take my worst choices, biggest mistakes, and worst experiences and bring about something magnificent. God promises to forgive and redeem. I have to be willing to let the past be the past, giving up all thoughts to change it, refute it, but most importantly fixate or dwell on it. Gotta give it to God. Even the hurt caused by others is an opportunity for God to radically change our lives forever. Lewis Smedes said it best, “Forgiveness manifest a wiliness to give up to God the right to judge and punish an offender, to see that person as a real human being, and to begin to wish him or her well. Forgiveness does not always restore the relationship, which requires movement from both sides. But it lets the hurt go and moves on. Forgiveness assumes that God is in control, that he will do justice at the proper time, and that he will make all things right in due time. Even when the relationship is not restored, because the offender doesn’t care, or continues to offend, or disappears, or even dies, forgiveness works redemption into the heart of the person who does the forgiving. The act of forgiveness becomes a conduit for God’s grace to work in that person. God’s grace can work wonders too, whether or not the offender takes responsibility for the wrongdoing. Grace can heal the soul….create peace…”
Sincere forgiveness isn’t colored with expectations that the other person apologizes or change.

WE CAN PRETEND THAT EVERYTHING IS OK, BUT THIS ARTICLE SCREAMS WE HAVE A PROBLEM -Teenager stabs himself to death onstage at open mic night in front of shocked crowd
Kipp Rusty Walker, 19, committed suicide in front of a crowd on Thursday at a coffee shop. An Oregon teenager shocked a crowd at a coffee shop last week when he stabbed himself to death on stage after singing at an open mic night. Kipp Rusty Walker, 19, took the stage at Strictly Organic Coffee in the town of Bend, Or. on Thursday to perform a song he called "Sorry for the Mess." When he finished playing, he pulled out a knife with a double-edged 6 inch blade and stabbed himself multiple times in the chest in front of a confused crowd of roughly 15 people. "It was really unclear at first what was even happening. Because, you know, it is an open mic and it's a performance," the shop's co-owner Rhonda Ealy told local television station KTVZ. "People at first thought it was some sort of theatre." Once the crowd saw blood and figured out what was happening, Walker was rushed to St. Charles Medical Center where he died of his wounds. A friend of his, who did not want to be identified, told Oregon’s NewsChannel 21 Walker's death did not come as much of a surprise because the teenager had contemplated suicide before and even planned to kill himself in a public place. "I've been preparing for it for a while, I'm sad about it, but I think I'm in shock, it's like a whirlwind of emotions," the friend said. "It was almost like he wanted to prove a point, like there's no point in being scared of death because it's going to happen to us anyway." Walker first tried to take his own life on Mar. 20th, the friend said, who helped to have him hospitalized at the psychiatric unit of St. Charles Medical Center-Bend. He said he warned Walker that killing himself would have lasting implications. "I actually told him, I was like, 'Dude, this is going to mess a lot of people up," the friend told the TV station. The traumatic incident is the first of its kind in the area, police Sgt. Chris Carney told Oregon radio station KBND. "You know, 19 years with the Police Department, I can't think of any event similar to this where somebody's done something in such a public forum," he said. "We still don't know the reason why he chose to do this, why he chose this location or anything and we probably never will." Counseling has been made available to witnesses or anyone affected by Walker's death. "Most people never have to see anything like that in their entire lives, and never have before, so it is a life-changing experience," Ealy told KTVZ. Walker would have turned 20 this week.
THIS IS SAD.

The Power of Unity
Usually when the Tower of Babel is referenced, it's mentioned in a negative tone. The reason, is because of the stupid motives that drove the people to build this tower. An ambition to be God like in some form or fashion which has plagued the creation since Eden. The peoples motives where wrong. Yet there is a nugget of wisdom that the body of Christ can take from this situation. The scripture says, that God saw what they were attempting to do and,
“Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! (Gen. 11:6)
God said because of their unity, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them. The modern day church is suppose to be a body. However, we are at best handicapped because the limbs or various parts are off doing their own thing. Another way of looking at it is like an orchestra. There are trumpets, clarinets, saxophones, French horns, violins, flutes, percussion a wide array of instruments. The problem is each section is apparently playing a different song. So instead of beautiful music, you get a bunch of noise and racket that's not appealing to listen to at all. Our goal should be to advance the kingdom of God. Not our church, not our denomination, not our doctrine. It's just Jesus. If we ever decide to unify as one body, all parts being led by the head, not to sound cliche', but we can literally change the world.
